Only have a week? This itinerary is built around three names on almost every safari wish list: the Masai Mara, the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater. There is no wasted time. You land in Nairobi, spend two nights in the Mara, cross the border into Tanzania, and finish with the crater before flying home from Arusha.
Why Choose This Safari
• Two countries, one week: the Mara and the Serengeti are part of the same great ecosystem, so you see it from both sides.
• Paced for short trips: only one hotel change per country region, so you spend more time watching wildlife and less time packing.
• Border handled for you: our team assists at Isebania and a Tanzanian driver-guide takes over on arrival.
• Easy to extend: add Zanzibar beach nights or an extra Serengeti night and we will re-quote the trip.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Nairobi
Stay: The Boma Nairobi | Meals: Bed & Breakfast
Our representative is waiting at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with a name board. After a short briefing on the week ahead, you are driven to your hotel. Use the evening to rest, because tomorrow starts early.
Day 2: Nairobi to the Masai Mara
Stay: Flair Camp Experience, Masai Mara | Meals: Full Board
Leave Nairobi after breakfast and climb out of the city towards the Rift Valley escarpment, where the road opens onto wide views. The landscape turns from farmland to open grassland as you near the reserve. Settle in at camp for lunch, then head out on your first game drive in the softer afternoon light.
Day 3: A Full Day in the Masai Mara
Stay: Flair Camp Experience, Masai Mara | Meals: Full Board
Today belongs entirely to the Mara. Your driver-guide takes you out after breakfast and again in the afternoon, with a picnic lunch in the reserve. Lions, elephants, giraffes and zebras are regular sights, and the open terrain makes it easier to spot cheetahs. A Maasai village visit can be added on request.
Day 4: Across the Border to the Serengeti
Stay: Serengeti House of Nature | Meals: Breakfast, Packed Lunch & Dinner
Today is a travel day, but not a dull one. Drive to Isebania, complete the Kenya-Tanzania immigration and customs formalities with our assistance, then meet your Tanzanian driver-guide. The road continues through changing scenery into the Serengeti, with wildlife viewing along the way as time allows.
Day 5: A Full Day in the Serengeti
Stay: Serengeti House of Nature | Meals: Full Board
Spend the whole day in one of the most famous wildlife areas on earth. The Serengeti is known for its endless plains and its lions, and your guide will choose the areas with the best chance of activity. Expect long views, big skies and plenty of time for photographs.
Day 6: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater
Stay: Hhando Coffee Lodge, Karatu | Meals: Full Board
After breakfast, leave the plains and climb towards the Ngorongoro highlands. The crater is a collapsed volcano whose floor holds a remarkable concentration of wildlife, including black rhinos, lions and large herds of wildebeest and zebra. Your evening is spent at a lodge in the cooler highland town of Karatu.
Day 7: Karatu to Arusha and Departure
Meals: Breakfast
After a relaxed breakfast, drive to Arusha and transfer to the airport for your onward flight. You leave with two countries and three of Africa's best-known wildlife areas behind you.
End of safari.
Best Time for This Safari
This week-long route works well from June to October, when roads are drier and wildlife gathers near water. The Great Migration is typically in the Masai Mara between July and October. Outside those months you still see excellent resident wildlife, often with fewer vehicles around.
