This itinerary uses the Naro Moru route, the fastest and most established path up the mountain, giving travelers a genuine taste of the trek without the multi-day commitment a full summit requires. Along the way, keep watch for elephant, buffalo, bushbuck, and — if you're fortunate — the elusive bongo antelope and colobus monkeys that call the forest zone home, alongside over 130 recorded bird species. Travelers wanting to extend into a full Point Lenana summit trek, or unwind afterward at the legendary Mount Kenya Safari Club, can have either built into a custom version of this itinerary.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Nairobi to Mount Kenya – Naro Moru Gate & Lower Forest

Depart Nairobi in the morning for the scenic drive to Naro Moru, entry point for the mountain's fastest and most popular route. Begin trekking through the montane forest zone, keeping watch for elephant, buffalo, and colobus monkeys along the trail. Overnight at a forest-zone lodge or campsite.

Day 2: Forest to Moorland Trekking & Wildlife Viewing

A full trekking day moves from forest into open moorland, with dramatic views back across the surrounding plains. This is prime territory for birdwatching among Mount Kenya's 130-plus recorded species, along with a chance of spotting the rare bongo antelope. Overnight at altitude, at a mountain lodge or camp.

Day 3: Descent & Departure (or Safari Club Add-On)

Descend through the forest zone back to the Naro Moru gate and transfer to Nairobi for departure. Travelers wishing to extend their trip can instead transfer to the Mount Kenya Safari Club for a luxury overnight before returning to Nairobi the following day.
